Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt & Cop Helps Woman At DMV By Speaking ASL & Helping Her Pay For Her New ID

Just as jiu-jitsu can help members of law enforcement to deescalate situations, learning another language can also be an underrated tool that police officers can use to help members of the public.

California Highway Patrol officer Randy Rodriguez, who happens to be a black belt under Rener and Ryron Gracie, was able to implement his own knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) when a deaf woman at the DMV needed help communicating with staff. Then, when he learned he didn’t have enough money on her to cover the transaction, he made up the difference with his own money.

While it’s not strictly jiu-jitsu-related, check out the video below to see a great member of the jiu-jitsu community going the extra mile to help a citizen in need:
