Singer and actress Demi Lovato has been making waves in the jiu-jitsu media for her love of the soft art. The 24-year-old Lovato — who has starred in shows as diverse as “Barney & Friends” and “Prison Break” — was recently interviewed by Glamour, and her passion for jiu-jitsu naturally came up.
When asked about a martial art everyone should try, Demi said jiu-jitsu, citing its self-defense applications:
With Jiu-Jitsu you can learn a lot of self-defense, which is pretty incredible for your daily life. You never know what kind of situations you’re going to come into, so I think teaching young girls how to learn Jiu-Jitsu is a great idea.
Lovato also told Glamour that jiu-jitsu was her favorite workout:
My favorite workout is Jiu-Jitsu. I just have so much fun doing it, and there’s something about the strategy involved that kind of makes it like a chess game and keeps your brain occupied as well while you’re working out, so you never get bored.
Of course, going by her Instagram, she’s quite fond of the striking arts, too — something all jiu-jitsu practitioners should add to their arsenal if possible.
She even got the chance to knock out Rocky!
