Meggie Ochoa & Jessa Khan Win Gold At SEA Games 2019

Meggie Ochoa and Jessa Khan have brought home gold in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games this year in the Philippines.

Ochoa and Khan won their jiu-jitsu divisions for -45kg and -49kg, respectively. Khan, a teenage brown belt with an impressive record that includes a win at No-Gi Pans this year, submitted two out of her three opponents to end up at the top of the podium while representing Cambodia. Ochoa is an Asian Games medalist representing the Philippines who runs Fight to Protect: an organization dedicated to helping victims of child sex abuse. She soundly defeated both of her opponents via points.

The Southeast Asian Games are a multisport event that takes place every two years. The event includes multiple combat sports including jiu-jitsu, such as wrestling, karate, judo, and muay Thai.

I am lost for words. All I can say is: wow! I did it! After all the training, cutting weight, being away from my family and friends, it was all worth it. I had 3 fights total and 2 submissions. I am very happy to say that I am the 2019 SEA Games Jiujitsu -49kg Champion! I was able to win a gold medal for Cambodia not only once, but twice! It really shows that if you have a strong mindset, supportive people, and a hard work ethic, then you can achieve anything. I am so thankful for this opportunity to represent Cambodia and my family. I am beyond grateful for all the support and messages I have received. Thank you so much everyone. This was also my last tournament of the year and my first tournament competing at brown belt. I am glad I could end it on a good note. Excited for what’s to come. I would like to thank @artofjiujitsu @redbowiecbd @believeandachieve @rvcasport @theshambaway @citizenwaterco #fidelitycapital – also @llfitness.kh @lot369cafe @hart.jiujitsu for helping me while I was in Cambodia.”
