New president elect of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro dropped in for a “surprise visit” at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Rio tour. The event, a collaboration between the UAEJJF and the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, has been showcasing some of the best in high belt competition this weekend in Rio.
If you’ve not been following Brazilian politics, Bolsonaro is a populist headline-maker who draws comparisons to the USA’s President Trump. His appearance was predictably met with mixed reactions on social media, but realistically–what would one say of a Brazilian president who didn’t give one of the biggest events in Brazilian jiu-jitsu the time of day?
